ICRC launches Corporate Support Group

Geneva (ICRC) – The leaders of seven Swiss-based companies and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) gathered today in Geneva to launch an innovative and long-term partnership: the ICRC Corporate Support Group.

    The Group consists of selected companies committed to supporting the humanitarian mission of the ICRC. The founding members of the Corporate Support Group are: ABB Ltd Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch & CieRocheSwiss Re , , , , Vontobel Group, Fondation Hans Wilsdorf and Zurich Financial Services. In an expression of solidarity, they have committed themselves to support the ICRC’s humanitarian work today and in the years ahead.

Each corporate partner has pledged to make a substantial donation to either the operational activities of the ICRC or the endowment fund of the Foundation for the ICRC. Interest from the endowment fund will be used to train the ICRC's most precious asset: its staff.

This is the first time that the ICRC has established a long-term partnership with the private sector. The objectives are to diversify the organization’s sources of funding and to promote exchanges between the ICRC and its partners in areas of mutual interest such as risk management, human resources development and training, logistics, information technology and communication. The ICRC will treat the members of the C orporate Support Group as'preferred partners'for specific events and campaigns

ICRC President Jakob Kellenberger expressed his gratitude to the founding members of the Corporate Support Group for their generosity and their commitment. He stated that " this is an opportunity to develop relations between the ICRC and representatives of the business community and to promote exchanges on strategic issues of common interest " .
